The power of women was proven once again - this time at the box office. The Wonder Woman
movie just broke Hollywood's superhero glass ceiling. The film, focused
on a female superhero and directed by a woman, opened with over $100
million in North American theaters this past weekend - one of the best
openings ever for a non-sequel superhero film! The superhero genre has
long been a boys' club - on both sides of the camera. Wonder Woman,
directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, showed them how women
get it done. These opening weekend numbers are on par with Iron Man's debut, which kicked off Marvel's superhero lineup - and beat out openings of Captain America, Thor, and Doctor Strange.
Fan's love for the Wonder Woman character can be seen not only in these
numbers, but also through their homage to the superhero through body
art posted on social media. So many Mehron Girls shared artistic
interpretations of the iconic character. Here are a few of our
favorites.
